HLI Security Alert During Code RED Alarms

ATTENTION ALL HLI PI, STAFF, STUDENTS : HLI Security Alert Procedures During CODE RED Alarms

When Code Red’s (fire alarm) are called, our secure access doors automatically unlock for a short period of time to allow those inside to safely exit. The automatic unlocking also creates a window of time for experienced thieves to access our secure areas and look for easy to steal items. Please be extra vigilant when a code RED is called and monitor public access doors in your areas, such as the main doors on 1st , 2nd McDonald, basement tunnel doors, courtyard and stairwell access doors in all areas. Question strangers, but do not confront. Call security at local 68323. If there is an issue, take notes (date/time/location/photos/video) and report it to the HLI Operations team at MOM@hli.ubc.ca

If you leave your lab or office, even for a few minutes and no one else is in the area, lock the doors.

When you leave for the day, ensure all doors are securely locked. Do not leave anything of value in open view, in hallways or unsecured areas. Be careful to not let strangers follow you in when you enter or leave access point. Always ask for an ID badge. Don’t let a stranger in to use the bathroom. Thieves will often say a nurse sent them or that they are lost as a cover story.

Thank you for helping keep us all safe and secure.
