UBC: Required COVID-19 Testing and Vaccination Status

Good afternoon,

I am sharing this message on behalf of UBC and President Ono:

Further to yesterday’s announcement, we wish to clarify that UBC will require COVID-19 testing for all students, faculty and staff, with exemptions provided for those who are vaccinated against COVID-19. We are currently sharing this through the various communications channels. We would appreciate if you could also share this with your respective heads and directors. We anticipate being able to share more information next week.

In addition, the language of the August 26th Broadcast email has been updated with the following information:

We know that mandated masks and vaccines have been key concerns within our community and we have continued to express those concerns in our discussions with the provincial government. While we are aware that a significant majority of our campus community have already been vaccinated and all safety precautions are in place for September, we are working towards offering rapid testing for our community members who have not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19, or who choose not to disclose their vaccination status.

As a result, UBC will require COVID-19 testing for all students, faculty and staff, with exemptions provided for those who are vaccinated against COVID-19. We will implement a process for confidential self-disclosure of vaccination status for all those who access our campuses, including students, faculty, staff and visitors. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

We will share more information as it becomes available next week.
