Updated: Black History Month Celebration – February 16, 2022

February is Black History Month. We would like to take this time to celebrate Black history and excellence and reflect on the role of people of African and Caribbean Descent in shaping Canada’s heritage as well as the struggles faced by Black communities.

UBC events on Black history month can be found at events.ubc.ca/black-history-month and we would like to encourage everyone to take a look at their agenda.

Some of the events include:

At HLI, we would like to invite you to join us for two short documentaries about some of the history of Canada’s Black communities and a proceeding community discussion on Wednesday, February 16th at 12-1pm. The event will be streamed on Zoom and the big screen in Gourlay Conference Room with limited space in accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines.

We would also like to hear from the community at large about suggestions and requests as well as volunteers for more events and engagements.
