Heat Advisory

During the summer months as many of the office areas are not temperature controlled, some spaces at HLI may become quite warm. If this happens, please consider limiting your time on site and discuss alternative options with your manager.

Although your first thought may be to offset higher temperatures by wearing shorts and sandals; such choices pose significant safety risks for lab work and are prohibited in lab areas at HLI.

If you do wear shorts to travel to work, please change upon arrival to lighter weight pants. Any sightings of short wearers in the lab areas will result in you being asked to leave or to change into scrubs (if available) .

Additional options are to take more frequent breaks, utilize fans where able and consider alternative working hours. The discomfort of an unpleasantly warm workplace pales in comparison to that experienced when one is permanently scarred from exposure to toxic and hazardous materials.

Please see Heat Related Illnesses poster below for warning signs and symptoms of heat related illness.
